A Fishy Tale
- How to grow a £10m crab business out of an MBA project within 13 years
- Surviving a major fire and a very poor acquisition – lessons to learn
- The Export journey – growing half the turnover by exporting to 12 countries
David Markham will talk about how a rabble of MBA students and a local fisherman came together naively thinking we could change the face of crab processing under the guise of The Blue Sea Food Company. Having seconded large sums of friends and family money to start the business we had no choice but to make it work. Following a mix of diving into retail sales, a catastrophic fire, good and bad acquisitions, exciting Asian export trips and huge factory investments the team is ready to expand our business to new levels.
We are far from a finished article and the next challenge will be growth through diversification and instigating a people focused leadership program as we are beginning to understand that to be successful, work has to be fun for everyone touched by our business.
